Hidden behind a thin screen of trees near Goffs Park in Crawley, the former Crawley Probation Service Office now sits derelict, gutted, and forgotten. Once a hub of quiet bureaucracy, home visits, and community supervision, it’s now little more than a shell—boarded up, broken into, and left to the mercy of nature and time.
Design & Layout
The building itself is a nondescript mid-20th century civic structure—brick-built, flat-roofed, and strictly functional. Inside would once have been interview rooms, small offices, records storage, and waiting areas, all designed for the quiet flow of paperwork and community supervision.
Decay & Abandonment
Today, doors hang from hinges, floors are strewn with broken glass, and graffiti marks walls once lined with notices. Filing cabinets lie open and overturned. Ceiling tiles have collapsed, exposing ducting and wiring. Light fittings swing loosely above, and scorched patches hint at past fires.
Context & History
Tucked between Goffs Park and a quiet residential street, the office was vacated around 2015–2018 following service centralisation and budget cuts. Staff relocated elsewhere, leaving this building shuttered—and gradually vandalised and weathered.
An Ordinary Ruin
There’s nothing gothic or grand here—just the quiet casualty of shifting services. But that ordinariness is its appeal: a place where futures were discussed, compliance enforced, and second chances given. Now it’s paperless and purposeless, slowly eroding into memory.
